Michael1973
Don't Cry Out Loud -- my father played this album a lot when I was a kid. That was just a few years before he decided that all popular music was awful.
Jeff
Happy Star Wars day everyone. And May the Fourth be with you.
Brock
Great Elton
humphreycpa
Good morning all TFO listeners. Let's go back to May 1978 and see if the wild chart movements show up in this countdown.
Slammin Sam
Morning Rod
Charliebob65
Good morning Sammy, Rod and all TFO ... time for some 1978
Slammin Sam
Morning Cuz
humphreycpa
Good morning Sam and Bobby.
Brock
Good morning Sam, Rod, Bobby. 70 degrees and sunny today. I'm thinking of skipping my shift and golfing today.
Charliebob65
Morning Brock.... not a bad plan..ok
humphreycpa
Good plan. Expect some rain your way (and Bobby's) in the next 24-48 hours. Just in time for Saturday, of course.
Jeff
Two songs on Thursday's countdown have mentioned a Cadillac.
Michael A
What other song basides Andrew Gold? Drawing a blank...
Michael A
Ah, got it! Movin Out.
Cjrmack
Yes not just a Cadillac but a Cadilac ac ac ac ac
Anonymous155076
The movie Grease would not be in cinema for over a month.
Anonymous155076
June 13, 1978
Laura
I'm glad Fantasy has held on for one more week.
Bill B
Definitely the right move making this the A side. Great song
Jeff
The countdown replay ended 10 minutes before the hour. Was this supposed to happen Sam? I didn't hear the end of the countdown this morning so I was just wondering.
Laura
I was listening and it started about 5-10 minutes before it usually started.
Laura
I think it had to do with the FM soundtrack ending earlier too?
Jeff
Okay, that makes sense.
Slammin Sam
The electricity went off right when the FM album started and that messed up everything
Ben
Good morning to all. Glad to hear that the power is back on, and we are ready to hear some hits that barely missed the Top 20 from 1982-91.
Charliebob65
Good morning Sammy, Ben and all TFO crew.. Happy Friday
GT in Iowa
It IS a good morning when I get to hear '82-'91 tunes (that aren't fried, ha).
Jeff
Good day TFO. I believe today we reach the Fox's favorite chart position (#22). ok
GT in Iowa
I'm a big fan of #22!
Laura
At this rate the automation's going to chop up like three songs.
jcoxscouter
Good morning Cuz, Ben, Bro, GT, Jeff, and the rest of the TFO'ers! Happy Friday! Now let's hear my favorite era.
jcoxscouter
Good morning Laura
Slammin Sam
It has got back on time now that was last night. It doesn't have anything to do with what is playing now
Ben
Deadbeat Club... great tune!
GT in Iowa
Love Soul City!
Ben
Soul City is awesome! I always get the Partland Brothers, Kane Gang and David and David mixed up!
Jeff
"My Side Of The Bed" SHCH.
Slammin Sam
Not sure why it is ahead now. It may be because of the segments in the countdown being long, But It will all play.
Michael1973
Susanna Hoffs actually did have a second solo hit. Not sure if it charted in Billboard, but it hit the airplay top 40. A great song as well.
Slammin Sam
It's Lonely Out Here I play, It did not get released as a single but got a lot of airplay
Laura
The last song played before the countdown started was With A Little Luck, and that was a long one.
GT in Iowa
Used to play the crap out of this tune, Not Just Another Girl, real good tune and yes, he sounds like Huey Lewis! ha
Jeff
"Not Just Another Girl" SHCH also.
Brock
Good morning everyone. Enjoy your Friday.
Ben
Love this Ivan Neville tune. Are we sure his Dad is Aaron Neville and not Huey Lewis?!
Laura
Neat that you got to interview her!
Michael1973
The Susanna Hoffs song I was thinking of was called All I Want. Hit the airplay charts in late 1996.
Slammin Sam
Deborah has done a lot with my Classic Country station.
Laura
I'm super used to hearing Rick's speaking voice thanks to his Working Class DJ shows.
GT in Iowa
Time for my boy (and Sams), Celebrate Youth!
GT in Iowa
Rick had 21 songs chart, SIX of them had a chart peak of #20-#23 and every one of them SHCH, IMO. LOL
Laura
Speaking of Sirius, this week's countdown is from 85 and Celebrate Youth's on there so I'll be hearing that a lot this weekend.
Ben
How does Jessie's Girl only reach number 8 on Radio and Records?!
Laura
Only reason I can think of is that its sales were a bit stronger.
Laura
But yeah it's pretty strange it peaked that low on there. There are several examples during the early 80s I find.
Laura
Ok this one should have done way better too.
Michael1973
I don't remember ever hearing Dare To Fall In Love on the radio outside of countdown shows
Michael1973
Rockin At Midnight -- possibly the only time Robert Plant sang lead on a party song
Ben
Michael... I've been to an Island party before and heard Dyer Maker, but you make a good point.
GT in Iowa
I liked this Martika (from Kids Incorporated) I Feel the Earth Move and then a SHCH tune from .38 Special, Teacher Teacher.
Ben
Teacher, Teacher is awesome. You can tell it is a Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance written song.
Jeff
"Voices Of Babylon" SHCH. It's a shame "Your Love" is the only Outfield song regular radio knows.
Ben
Who is on the Mount Rushmore of female singers on The Fox Oldies? Sheena Easton, Kim Carnes, Olivia Newton John and Stevie Nicks?
Brock
Great song---Fantasy
Anonymous147089
Maybe Pat Benatar
Roberto Rubio
That was me, with the Pat Benatar suggestion. I was signed out.
GT in Iowa
Dang, missed The Politics of Dancing, what a great song. BUT, talk about a SHCH, it's the one-hit wonder, "The Girl I Used to Know", laugh And then a great one after this, Love Changes Everything
Brock
Rod Stewart II!
GT in Iowa
Did not know that Rod trivia
Ben
Agree GT. Who said #22 was the best Fox number? These#23 tunes are off the charts good!
Jeff
"Love Changes Everything" SHCH for sure.
Laura
Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like Dennis Deyoung?
Laura
Oh no
Jeff
"Nightbird" SHCH.
Ben
I can't take Stevie Nicks off of my Fox Mount Rushmore of female singers.
Ben
Jude Cole...a mentor for the 2000s band Lifehouse, and a good one at that.
Brock
Robert Cray. Gold from 1987
Michael1973
There seemed to be an unusually high number of one-hit wonders in the first half of 1987, Robert Cray being one
Jeff
Taken In" SHCH. A lot of great #22 songs.
Jeff
Nice! The Moody Blues had a #22 song.
Jeff
"New Song" SHCH.
Michael1973
I would not have expected that Send Me An Angel hit the rock chart
GT in Iowa
Cryin', good tune from '89
Jeff
"Wild Wild Life" SHCH.
GT in Iowa
Very surprised it didn't peak higher, for as often as I seem to hear it, where other songs that peaked about the same, you rarely hear.
GT in Iowa
I like pretty much everything Starship and this is no exception, Tomorrow Doesn't Matter Tonight
Ben
My takeaway from this morning. How does Jermaine Stewart (four) have more songs in this countdown than Talking Heads (Three?)
Ben
Some stellar songs that peaked at number 23, 22 and the extra songs. Very enjoyable to listen today.
GT in Iowa
Yep, good show today!
GT in Iowa
Bring on the BROCK SHOW!!!
Ben
The sweet 1600 remain. Hard to believe that we have already checked off 900 songs.
Jeff
The 19/18 peaks are another really good set.
Ben
Brock does a nice job of including some great 1992-02 songs on his show. Take Time by Chris Walker is a good example. Would love to hear this in a future countdown.
Ben
Mount Rushmore of Yacht Rock in my opinion: Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, and Gerry Rafferty.
Laura
Should Steely Dan be included?
Brock
Ben thanks. I'm going to maybe in the future do some sort of countdown with that subject. My guess is in my countdown (self serving!) will Be Fogelberg, Firefall, Ambrosia. This summer I'll figure something out.
Laura
A Yacht Rock-themed countdown would be cool. Not in the format of the usual countdowns, maybe by personal preference.
Ben
I was just thinking solo artists. Otherwise, Steely Dan and Toto would have to be there.
Ben
Like four faces carved into a mountain.
Brock
Laura I'm debating that. Do you want to hear my favorites or me being more objective. I 'm up for either, it's what you folks want
Brock
because you're going to get a Brock's jukebox countdown this summer too, with my top ____hits of all time.
GT in Iowa
That'll be kewl
Troy in CA
Nothing but Brock Songs? How can we handle such thrills?oh_please
Brock
@Troyclouds
Ben
I'd love to hear a Brock 90s Jukebox on a Friday after the big 82-91 countdown!
Brock
90's???? That would be different Ben.
Ben
Brock, I know 77-80 is your sweet spot. I like it too, but we get it Monday-Thursday mornings with Sam. Was just thinking of something different...
Brock
Let me see Ben
Troy in CA
Golden Earring did a good job picking a forgotten song. Coming on Strong by Brenda Lee really was forgotten, even when this song came out.
Charliebob65
Thanks for the nurse shoutout Brock
humphreycpa
Amen Brother Bobby!
Brock
You're welcome Bobby and thank them. Can't say enough about them. and the difficult job they do.
Charliebob65
It certainly is .. Sammy's wife is a nurse and I have been one for about 30 years... CAn be tough at times... Nice to be appreciated
Brock
Bobby thank you for all you do. Rewarding, thankless at times.
Bill B
That's a GREAT album Sam!!

Brock
Good Sunday early AM
AC
Wow, you're still up Brock? Hope you enjoyed the hockey today!
AC
Also heard that Mickey Gilley passed away on Saturday. We will definitely get to honor him as we continue to go through the great year of 1980.
Charliebob65
Happy Sunday Morning everyone..
Cjrmack
Happy Sunday Charliebob
Charliebob65
Good Morning TFO Crew...Time to get started with good tunes and great company... Hope your day is grand...cafe
jcoxscouter
Good morning Cuz, Bro, and the rest of the TFO'ers! Happy Monday! Now let's hear what 1977 and Sam have in store this morning. it has been a great start!
humphreycpa
Good morning Bobby, John and Sam and all TFO listeners
jcoxscouter

Charliebob65
Morning Rod and John... Hope your day is blessed and fruitful...

Charliebob65
Good morning Brock.
Slammin Sam
Morning everyone
jcoxscouter
Good morning Brock.
Michael A
Was hoping 'Ariel' would debut this week. Next week for sure!
Brock
Hey Bobby, you like how I picked on "your thing"?
Brock
picked up that should say
Cjrmack
Good morning all!
Cjrmack
A note on the blog I put links on all the various countdown links so you can get back to the main blog page much easier.
Charliebob65
Brock laugh-big
Brock
Is that a yes?
Slammin Sam
So what does Samx1 mean
Charliebob65
That is a yes Brock
Charliebob65
ok
Brock
That's a Bobby and I thing sorry you do not have access to that Sam
Troy in CA
Under-appreciated Firefall Song.
Troy in CA
This is one of the looniest non-releases.
Troy in CA
Grand Funk, from the city of bad water.
AC
There we go, finally pulling out of the wheelhouse for a lost hit from 1992! Stations that play 90s music don't even touch this, oddly.
Troy in CA
Should have been the "A" side of the fourth single from Against The Wind.
AC
There we go, another gem from 1992! It would be nice to have some countdowns from the early 90s, perhaps next year.
Slammin Sam
Sorry won't ever do the 90's countdowns too much rap.
AC
What about 1990 though? Or just doing a countdown here and there? It was nice when you were doing different years every week that you would do an early 90s countdown every now and then.
Slammin Sam
Sorry. Not the format for this station. I will play select songs in rotation but no countdowns Mayeb at some point and 91 to 2000 like the 82 to 91 but no time soon
AC
It was nice when you played a countdown from 90, 91, and 92 every once in awhile. I miss that.
Laura
Hypothetically, if you were to do a countdown from that era, you would have to go with charts that didn't have a whole lot of rap on them.
AC
I believe that's what he ended up doing, which is why there would be a countdown from the early 90s sporadically, to avoid the minefield of rap.
Michael1973
Looking at the list for this morning's countdown. Crazy how a song that was 44 & 38 on two of the charts is still in the top ten.
Slammin Sam
One of the charts had it ranked high or it would not have been
Laura
Record World it looks like. Two of the songs are even still in the top 40 there while it's off the other three.
Troy in CA
Jackie Blue is one of the BEST songs of the entire 70's decade IMO.
Slammin Sam
It is great
Troy in CA
It would be in my top 20 for sure....and that is saying a LOT since the 70's was the best overall decade in the history of music.
Troy in CA
and the biggest song of the 70's, YLUML would not make my top 1000. cleaver
Slammin Sam
Yea that wouldnt make many peoples list
Laura
It would make mine! JK.
Jeff
Good day TFO. On to this week's hits in 1980. Thinking Neil + Dara and Pat Benatar must debut today.
Charliebob65
Good morning Jeff, and allTFO crew....1980, here we come....ok
jcoxscouter
Good morning Cuz, Bro, and the rest of the TFO'ers! Now let's hear this stretch of the 1980 section of memory lane.
Brock
Good morning Samx1, John, Bobby, Jeff and the crew. The best chart of the 1980(s) is today!
humphreycpa
Good morning Jeff, Bobby, John, Brock, Sam and all other TFO listeners.
Bill B
Heard the other day that Dolly is looking to put out a rock album. Maybe some songs with the Stones.... Interesting.
Jeff
Great Pink Floyd extra!
Troy in CA
Since Clones didn't make the countdown it makes me wonder how many other songs that made the Billboard top 40 would not have made the Fox 50 countdown??
Slammin Sam
not many. We did some research on that. Less than 10 from 76 to 83.
Troy in CA
Okay, good to know that is a rarity.
Laura
I have heard the 5/10/80 AT40 show many times on iHeart's channel. Back when they actually cared and their stream wasn't glitching all the time.
Jeff
5/10/80 was featured this past weekend on AT40: The 80s.
Anonymous147087
The Wall's never going to budge from #1.
Michael A
"Against the Wind" should dislodge it shortly. Already the #1 LP on Billboard.
Bill B
Hard to beat a double play of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes
Brock
Bill, I like Bad Luck, love The Love I Lost. In my jukebox for sure.
Bill B
Thanks for the great show today Brock!hat
Brock
Bill glad you enjoyed, thanks for listening.
Ben
Great two songs from Roxette!
Charliebob65
Great toofer shows today guys... Thanks! clap
Bill B
Thank you Sam. Great music this afternoon and I'm really enjoying the 2-for-Tuesday
humphreycpa
Great selections all around Sam and Brock!
jcoxscouter
Great shows today, gentlemen! Really like the toofer's today.
Brock
Thanks Rod & John for hanging out.
Brock
Bobby thanks for the listen to Samx1 and I!
Slammin Sam
Thanks everyone for the nice comments yesterday, Was a crazy day wasn't around the chat
Jeff
Now, further into 1979.
Charliebob65
Good morning TFO... Happy Hump day....
humphreycpa
Good morning Bobby, Jeff and Sam. I hope you are having a good Wednesday!
Roberto Rubio
Love this song, I never get tired of listening to this song -- Chase by Giorgio Moroder
Brock
Good afternoon gents & Laura. Hope it's a good hump day for us all.
Charliebob65
Always love me some Boston... A RnR Hall of Fame snub for sure .. devil
Brock

jcoxscouter

Slammin Sam
Thanks Rod and John
Brock
Thanks also Rod
Laura
Looks like I was wrong about Fantasy staying on for one more week.
Laura
Is he supposed to be holding a power drill?
Charliebob65
Good morning Sammy and TFO crew... Happy Friday 13th........omg
Jeff
Good day TFO. Time for more of that great 1982-1991 countdown. ok
Ben
Good morning to all. Ready for the best countdown ever created!
Roberto Rubio
Good morning
Justice
Good morning, Ben and Roberto
Justice
Jeff and Charlie too smile
GT in Iowa
Morning everyone, bring on the great Friday the 13th tunes!
Brock
Good morning everyone. Hope it's a good Friday
Ben
I wonder if Sam's message from 2020 will play today before the Star Spangled Banner?
Jeff
"Running Down A Dream" SHCH.
Ben
Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart, and Stevie Wonder... Hall of Fame talent.
GT in Iowa
Three songs in a row that I really like (that aren't fried), Gavin with One Step, Kenny with Vox Humana and Aretha with Another Night.
jcoxscouter
Good morning to all of the TFO'ers out there!
Ben
GT... three excellent mid-80s, mid charting tunes!
humphreycpa
Good morning all. Looks like a party in here smile
Ben
Deeper Shade of Soul... awesome tune!
Ben
Space Age Love Song.... only got to 30 on Billboard. What a joke! Awesome song.
Jeff
"Space Age Love Song" SHCH.
humphreycpa
I believe Space Age Love Song is the first song on AMC 1983
GT in Iowa
I agree, Ben. When I think of this tune, I remember hearing it for the first time on our local AM station. AM was NOT the place to listen to good music, only country music, ha.
GT in Iowa
I think you're right, Rod.
Michael A
Or like The Marvellettes' 'Don't Mess With Bill'. Good Heart song, rarely heard.
Ben
This Man is Mine... probably should have charted lower. I prefer the rock sound that we heard from Heart in the 70s and mid-80s.
Troy in CA
I hope Ray Parker's girlfriend beat him up good....as he requested. silly
Laura
Speaking of Heart, they recorded a cover of The Woman In Me in the mid 90s.
Ben
Hearts version peaked at number 105 on Billboard. Ouch.
Slammin Sam
Ann Wilson has a new solo album which you will start hearing songs from very soon
Slammin Sam
Timothy B Schmit also has a New album. Several new adds will be in the rotation after next week
Ben
Thanks Sam. It's been good hearing some new music from Fox artists. Also enjoy the double shots on Twos-day!
GT in Iowa
Always liked the voice of Timothy B Schmit, I'll have to check out his new album.
humphreycpa
Three pretty darned good albums next week!
Cjrmack
If not for the vocals I would swear "New World Man" was by the Police
Laura
It does kinda sound like a Police song. I never thought of that.
Ben
Great comparison. Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart are two of the best to ever do it.
Cjrmack
No doubt Ben. 2 truly great drummers
Jeff
"Mary's Prayer" SHCH.
GT in Iowa
Mary's Prayer, a great tune
Jeff
MSM, another SHCH.
GT in Iowa
Love me some HUEY
Michael A
Here's a goodie! Toney Carey and his 'Uncle Sonny'!!
Jeff
"What About Me" should have been top 10 across the board. Ridiculous!
Laura
That's two countdowns in a row this week that featured Stayin' Alive.
Ben
Order has been restored. Heart is back to playing rock and roll and sounding great!
Ben
Great extra by The Clocks.
Charliebob65
Thanks for teh great shows all week .. They always make the work week better. . Everyone have a great weekend .... bye
Brock
Thanks Bobby, have a good weekend too. Today was an X2 day!
Laura
Well I hope it was the Radio Edit of The Bad Touch.
jcoxscouter
Good morning Cuz, and the TFO'ers out there. Happy Monday. Hoping everyone's weekend was good. Now let's hear what this week in 1977 and Sam have in store.
Charliebob65
Good morning Sammy, bro, and allTFO....It is Monday
Slammin Sam
Morning Cuz times two
Michael A
Morning everytone--made it in tim for Starbuck's 'other' song. Hoping to hear 'Ariel' today!
Brock
Good morning Sam, John, Bobby and the rest of the crew. Hey Bobby, Sam got you there!
Michael A
,,,and here she is! Thgis song is SO much my life that spring/summer. I met my 'Ariel' om May 19. She was Catholic, not Jewish, but SO like the girl Dean is describing.
Michael A
...and the 'long' version too! thanks, Sam.
Slammin Sam
It is in the regular rotation and has been since day one. Also one of my favorites.
Gianni Rubino
Aw ... only 'kick.'
Gianni Rubino
... i meant kickS
Michael A
Funky ones, at that! laugh-big
Jeff
I'm starting to wonder whether "Rich Girl" is just going to linger around the way "Enjoy Yourself" and "Blinded By The Light" did.
Michael A
It is, thanks to Record World.
Michael1973
I was just going to comment on that. Last week Rich Girl was in the top ten here despite being well below #30 on two charts. And yet here it is still in the top ten this week!
Jeff
I'm kind of confused as to why "Luckenbach, Texas" is being played as an extra. It's going to be in the countdown next month.
Slammin Sam
Because I needed a song to fill up some time and it is not in the countdown. It is not the first time I have done this. I have done the same thing with songs thathit number one on the R & B chart, Hope that clears up your confusion.
Michael A
Because it's the #1 Country single this week.
Michael1973
Brock, I never understood in this Glenn Frey song why she had to take his number, when you'd think she already had it
Brock
I think he had a burner phone back then. Oh wait....
Brock
Yeah Michael I'd have to think about that
Brock
Michael, no cells back then. He was at another location than his home and so she had to take his number.
Michael1973
Okay sure, we'll go with that
Brock
Only thing I can come up with
Michael1973
I do that all the time. Overanalyze song lyrics until they don't make sense anymore.
Brock
1980 Spring and Summer Sam....none better
Brock
Hitting the road early to beat the storms. Enjoyed it Sam, thanks.
Charliebob65
Thanks for the shows today Sammy and Brock... I made it thorugh Mondat with the help of TFO... clap
jcoxscouter
Agreed, Bro! Nice shows today Brock, and Samx2. Made a Maundy Monday abit easier to bear... smile
Slammin Sam
Very welcome cuz times two. Have a great rest of the day! And thanks for tuning in.
AC
Nice, some Niteflyte! I do want it, to continue the 79/80 groove train (or would it be yacht?)!
Brock
Thanks brothers X2. Let's twoooo it again tomorrow.
Brock
Or do it again twoooomorrow
