Kari
Love Don't Shed a Tear, curious what will be next
Brock
Yeah they try to fry Don't Shed a Tear on terrestrial radio, but they can;t fry it enough for me.
Brock
GT Thursday 7ET/6C on NESN. Getting all wound up!
Kari
I demand a late 80s countdown soon.
GT25Ump
To the surprise of no one, I'll second Kari's demand!
Kari
YOu know, to be fair, I should just be happy that the countdowns stopped featuring Captain and Tenille. Although I should check the list for tomorrow...
Kari
SPOILER ALERT: we're sage
Kari
SAFE
GT25Ump
LOL....
Cabby
Love Raspberries!!
Brock
Great talkover song Sam!
GT25Ump
Mmm, Christopher Cross!
Brock
One of my all time favorites---Ride Like The Wind---too bad it's just beaten to death in other precincts
Kari
can't hear this song without thinking of the sketch from SCTV
Kari
if anyone has not seen it
GT25Ump
I'd never seen that before, ha.
GT25Ump
d**k Narx, good stuff. Looking forward to hearing what Sam chose for song #2.
humphreycpa
Yacht Rock hour on the Fox!
GT25Ump
Me likey!
Kari
Hazard is one of my faves!!
Kari
That's actually a great idea Humph, Sam should have Sunday night yacht rock
Brock
Yes take what SiriusXM has done and add real depth.
humphreycpa
Exactly Brock. More than the same 3 hour set list.
Brock
Kari just watched that. Awesome. Sam you could run at least a special hour of M.M. backgrounds!
Brock
Humphrey, all the SXM stations are shallow but that one is ridiculous. Can you imagine if that channel (and this is true on any platform, like Pandora) did that format right? Grand slam.
humphreycpa
The late boomer and early Gen Xers would be in heaven. But alas, their lack of variety turned me off.
GT25Ump
Song #2 should be What Does it Take and I'll be very pleased if it is.
Brock
I still hang in there for what else they offer. 70's channel lame, 80's a farce. MTV DJ's act like they made the 80's. Yeah ok.
Kari
Thing Called Love, great song. Sam, do you have any John Hiatt in the rotation? Guess it doesn't really fit the format, but he's got so many great tunes.
sam
No sorry. Know the name but never heard any of his music.
Brock
Great song, Felix!
Kari
good morning all!
Brock
Good morning Kari, good morning one and all!
abwisco
Good morning, Sam and my fellow FoxFans!
dave in PA
Good morning
humphreycpa
Good morning TFO peeps! Are we ready for a stroll down 1978? The Gibb brothers/RSO era
Kari
Lovely day
AC
Great song, should have peaked much higher.
MitchM
Good Morning, everyone. Great survey, Sam - of the 5 songs you have played so far, 3 of them are brand new to me - which is what I love.
AC
Yes, it is a good morning when I get to hear this show!
AC
I finally was able to hear one of the extra extras from AMC 1977 once again. How Stillwater's one hit is not even played on classic rock stations is beyond me.
GT25Ump
Morning, kids. Seven inches of snow overnight in NW Iowa, the snowblower is sweaty and smoking, ready to chill here and listen to some tunes, for a bit.
dave in PA
Sounding good Sam
dave in PA
Always liked this song too along with previous love
AC
I concur once again Sam. I wonder if that had to do with the Bee Gees/Saturday Night Fever/RSO explosion we're about to experience, as well as the outlook for the future of 1978.
AC
Bob Welch is great! He is a underrated talent!
AC
This is my favorite song by Brick that I have heard of theirs. I think this is better than Dazz or Dusic.
Brock
What was going on? Payola
sam
Don't Say!
MitchM
Billboard has too much integrity to be involved in any payola scheme (MitchM says sarcastically).
dave in PA
Yes I love this sing I turn in my man card
Brock
Haha @ Mitch & Dave
Brock
Big Manilow fan here Dave
Brock
Let me know if you were able to view that
Brock
LOved following the weeks on plight of Falling & I Go Crazy
Brock
GT, you too, check that link!
humphreycpa
The slow dance version of the countdown. I was a freshman in high school in February 1978.
dave in PA
Nice Brock nothing like a buzzer beater m.
humphreycpa
Nice buzzer beater Brock! How'd BU steal him out of the Blackhawks backyard?
GT25Ump
Yep, worked like a charm!
Brock
You mean UMass Humphrey? We're trying to steal anyone we can. #16 in that clip will be playing in Denver next season. Unbelievable talent
Brock
The guy doing the play by play on that clip is Tim Neverett, who will be doing the radio and TV play by play for the Dodgers this season. This is his last hockey game tomorrow night and that's who I get to make my debut with. He's solid.
Brock
He'll be in the same booth as Vin Scully was. For an older guy like me, that's chilling. Well it would be if I were him, anyway
humphreycpa
yeah brock. my bad!
dave in PA
No pressure you got this
humphreycpa
i'll have to tune in Brock. NESN, right?
MitchM
Brock, you are really starting to rub shoulders with some of the top professionals in the game. Congratulations.
Brock
Yes Humphrey, 7:00 faceoff. Yeah Dave, piece of cake.
Brock
Haha Mitch, thanks, I wouldn't go that far!
Brock
Doing some spots here on the Fox...rubbing shoulders with Sam, now that's big time.
sam
sam
If I'm big time. Then you need to look at your standards a little more because they need to be raised
Brock
I'd cherish doing a FBTF countdown right there with this broadcast. TFO rocks.
Brock
Never warmed to this song, and I'm a huge LRB fan. Learned to tolerate it.
Brock
Skyscrapers!
Brock
Yeah I would say the other charts were right. 24 pretty ambitious for this song.
Brock
Warning SAM SONG ALERT at #23
dave in PA
I agree
AC
I would agree. Too Hot Ta Trot is an ok song, though not Top 30 material.
Brock
Warning Sam Song NOT alert at #21. Be kind Sam.
Troy in CA
I think we will recover Sam.
Troy in CA
Name of the Game should have been top 5.
AC
For sure. It did top the chart across the pond. Talk about some ABBA fans!
Brock
GREAT song.
Brock
The short version is better though Sam.
Kari
oh dear, I never knew this was the name of that song. agreed it's bad
dave in PA
That’s awesome
sam
I tried to play the short version but it wouldnt load up.
Brock
Than this is double hell for you sorry Sam.
dave in PA
just kidding I’m rilling laughing been there believe me
Brock
It let's me type hell?
Brock
I think the phrase "dump out of the song" should be in play for you Sam
Troy in CA
agreed. I always thought it was a stinker. Maybe in everyone in NYC bought it and that's the only reason it did well.
Brock
I'm a Massachusetts guy Troy and I should hate NY, but the only board member that likes it I guess.
Brock
This song has given you plenty of chances to dump out Sam I don't feel sorry for you!
Brock
I can't wait for listener appreciation day
AC
I like this song, though it sounds like it was recorded a little bit earlier in the 70s.
sam
Need an emojie with its fingers in its ears
sam
There is one coming I dislike as much if not more than Odssey
Troy in CA
should have been top 5 IMO!
Brock
Sam #15????
humphreycpa
my money is on #10 Brock
Brock
Mine is #7. The funny thing is there are several Chic song I like, like Good Times.
Troy in CA
and Thunder Island should have gone #1 IMO.
sam
nope like both of those
Brock
I KNOW!
Brock
#5!
Brock
It's a real good song Troy
sam
Nope
Brock
Last guess #6
sam
Nope love that one
humphreycpa
throwing out #8.
sam
Nope. Not a favorite but I can tolerate it
sam
It has already played
Kari
1992!!! cool
MitchM
1992 ? Wow ! That's new territory for you, Sam.
GT25Ump
Did I hear a 1992? Interesting!
sam
One of the first live ones I did was a 90's countdown.
MitchM
You did a live 90s countdown before, Sam. I missed it.
sam
Yea it was the 2nd week if I remember
MitchM
I think that was 1989, Sam.
Jeff
1992 has good tunes. A chart from Leap Day no less. Let's be happy though that it's only February and too early for Sir Mixalot.
MitchM
"I Go Crazy" was in the Top 100 for 37 weeks in Record World and 36 in Cash Box.
sam
I think you are right Mitch.
AC
Nice, a 90s countdown. I am not so much into the pop music of 1992 however, though the modern rock from that year was amazing. Looking forward to the countdown regardless.
sam
way to many rap songs in it. But it does have some good songs as well. Wont do a whol elot of 90's countdowns. But gonna do this one at least.
AC
Thunder Island is a great tune! There is some lovely guitar work from Joe Walsh on that one!
AC
I figured that Sam, and most of us here seem to want to go into the pop music of the 90s just a little. Still, thank you for playing a 90s countdown.
sam
I play a lot of songs from the 90's in regular rotation. But there are a lot in this countdown that I don't play and never will again after it plays. But trying to give a little varity. But most of them will be 70's and early 80's as that is the stations years that are focused on most.
AC
Even though we are getting a heavy dose of 1964, it would be nice to hear a late 60s countdown sometime soon as well.
Jeff
My Fox Oldies t-shirt arrived yesterday. Thanks again Sam.
sam
Great Jeff. I forgot about Monday being aholiday. Glad it got there. Enjoy!
sam
AC I will do that as well at some point
AC
Ok, thanks Sam
dave in PA
To think how big of a success Andy Gibb could have been
Kari
I will tell you all why I love to hear Stayin Alive... I work for a company that makes Automated External Defibrillators and whenever we receive word that one of our devices was used to save a life, a snippet of Stayin Alive is played over the loudspeaker in our building
AC
For sure, though the decline of disco probably wouldn't have helped his career regardless.
Kari
so I hear it a couple times a week but it's an awesome feeling when I do
sam
Yea my wife is an RN and I have heard the tempo of the song is the exact beat that needs to be done when performing CPR. I also heard that taking a CPR class
AC
That's cool Kari!
Kari
yes Sam, that was also made famous in an episode of The Office
AC
Nice, a sneak peek at 1992. Even though this song samples True throughout the entire song, I like it.
AC
Nice, I was just wondering if I Should Say Yes was going to be played sometime soon, as we were denied in our aborted trip through 1988 with Casey by moneygrubbers on the Internet.
sam
Never seen the office. Not much of a TV viewer and that guy that has the main role irritaes me to no end.
AC
I meant Should I Say Yes. I guess I answered the question for Nu Shooz!
Brock
Just a couple rappers Sam. later in in 192 and 93 is when it gets our of control. Again it's that 2-3 years lag thing 80-82, 70's music, 70-72, 60's etc.
Brock
in '92
Brock
Good Commodores song!
humphreycpa
1976 AMC Preview Sam?
sam
Yea I was showing a friend how the program put the song info on the file. So if you were lucky you got a sneak peak
humphreycpa
Thank you! It was a pleasant surprise!
sam
GT25Ump
Mmm, Alive and Kicking, good tune!
Jeff
Eric Carmen is a sure bet but with a possibility of Billy Joel or Lisa Stansfield before that.
dave in PA
Good morning all
GT25Ump
Morning all, as well.
All About Soul, good 90's tune from Billy baby!
humphreycpa
Good morning all. Nothinig like a little Hendrix early on A to Z day.
humphreycpa
Good call Jeff.
dave in PA
There could be two versions of this tune .... like both
dave in PA
A good benetar song
Jeff
I would have thought Sister Hazel would come before Janet Jackson since their song came out first.
sam
It should have
Kari
hmmm, I can do without color me badd but that's the joy of The Fox, it covers such a wide swath of artists!!
MitchM
Sam has been pulling some songs in from left field this morning, and then I can never get right what songs are considered burned.
sam
Burnt is territorial and also a personal opinion. So yes very hard to pin down
sam
And with me not listening to territorial radio for over 15 years plus. I would have no idea what they have burnt up over the last 15 years
Jeff
Yeah, there should be a burned Mike + the Mechanics song coming up. But I still want to hear it. Guess that's what makes 1986 so good.
dave in PA
Jack Wagner next... I would fry that one
dave in PA
Oh well
dave in PA
That’s what makes this interesting
Kari
agreed dave
Kari
on that's what makes this interesting
Kari
if you don't like a song there will be a new one in a couple minutes!
dave in PA
Yep
dave in PA
All I wanna do
sam
email dave
humphreycpa
a possible Toad the Wet Sprocket coming up.
humphreycpa
and a Kansas song that was played a couple of hours ago
Jeff
And U2.
Cjrmack
What happened to "All I Really Want To Do"? Did not hear it.
MitchM
I did hear the song by Heart.
Cjrmack
Maybe because it was from the 60's. Do not know how far back it is going.
MitchM
But there was no song by Cher or the Byrds.
Cjrmack
Right Mitch they both made the Top 40
Jeff
I hope Led Zeppelin is next. Great song!
MitchM
Lots of songs from the 60s are played but not as many as from the 70s and 80s.
sam
Just no tin the regular rotation. There are gonna be songs you are not gonna agree with. That's part of it.
Jeff
Lionel Richie is kind of burned but I think we'll hear Joe Walsh.
Cjrmack
I think "All Of My Love" might have hit #1 if it was ever released as a single.
sam
Lionel there is nothing left but ashes.
dave in PA
Would have thought this would have hit the 40... totally agree but what do I know I wasn’t born yet
sam
I was a year old and I knew better.
Jeff
Hmm... I wonder if Milli Vanilli is on the Fox playlist.
Kari
Think All I Want is You by U2 should be in the rotation, one of their most underrated, but as Sam says, there's always disagreement.
sam
Believe or not. never heard that song before.
humphreycpa
there is a big Elton John album track in the "All' songs. i'm guessing that's a Zew song only.
Kari
Hmmm.... Sam it will make a great extra for the 1989 AMC, hit 83 on the charts.
(All I Want is You that is).
sam
I have U2's discography. Just never heard that song. Must have not got any airplay in Dallas.
Jeff
It's on U2's greatest hits album 1980-1990.
Kari
yea and it was in Reality Bites and charted (on mainstream rock chart) again in 1994. Check it out Sam, curious if you will like it.
sam
I listened to about half of it. Never heard that song before.
MitchM
I like this Air Supply song, but I did expect it to have been banned.
Troy in CA
Yes, a little explicit but probably their best song.
MitchM
Troy, I meant banned as being too burnt.
Troy in CA
Ha Ha, okay. I thought you were referring to the line "if I got on you now".
Troy in CA
One of my very favorite ELO songs.
Cjrmack
Wondering if "All the Things She Said" is in the mix. We will know soon!
Jeff
You finished the extras. 1978 should be starting.
humphreycpa
A deep cut from Yellow Brick Road....nice.
Cjrmack
Am I on a delay? I am not hearing "All the Young Girls Love Alice" yet but I assume that is what humphrey is referring to.
Kari
Remember when the Monkees became big again in the 80s because MTV started playing the show? That was when I fell in love with them. My first concert was my parents taking me and my sister to see them play
humphreycpa
Yes sir. that's the song
Cjrmack
Just starting now for me
Cabby
From one of the best albums of all time.
Cjrmack
I agree Cabby
sam
Peter Tork of The Monkees has passed away at the age of 77.
humphreycpa
:"( only Mike and Mickey left
Jeff
Possible two-fer from Mott The Hoople coming up.
Cjrmack
Wow for me hitting a good streak. Really like the last 4 songs. This is my favorite Simple Minds song.
Cjrmack
Sorry to hear about Peter Tork. May he RIP.
Cjrmack
Wow love "All the Young Dudes" too.
MitchM
I am a little surprised that both TATU and Mott the Hoople were skipped.
sam
I have no idea what the other Mott The Hoople song is you are talking about. I know All The Young Dudes which is played on The Zew.
Cjrmack
I did not know what the other could be either
Cjrmack
o.k. do not think I have heard that one.
sam
Not familiar with that song at all.
Jeff
Some classic rock stations had it in rotation in the early 80s.
sam
It's rare to even hear All The Young Dudes in the Dallas area
Jeff
Wow! ATYD is fairly well done around here.
Cjrmack
I am thinking "All You Zombies" is in the rotation. I hope so. Will be cranking that one.
sam
The Classic Rock station here used to play it but not very often and I don't believe they play anything from that time period anymore.
Jeff
Billy Joel should be first after the "All " songs.
GT25Ump
How ironic, all this "Monkee" talk earlier and Peter Tork passes away. Kari will really be disappointed.
sam
Gonna shock you again Jeff.
Cjrmack
I agree with 100% on the Hooters song Sam
Jeff
That is a shock. "Allentown" not even being in rotation.
Jeff
I do hope we get to hear the song from Footloose.
sam
Fried to ashes in my opinion
sam
Even more fried
sam
Both of those songs will be played mulitple times on any o fthe all 80's stations a thousand times today.
Kari
GT My comment was in response to Sam on air saying Peter Tork had passed away
Kari
I'm not psychic!!!
Cabby
great great song
sam
I know there are gonna be songs that some of you are gonna say your nuts to not play. Got to have a baseline for the format and so many 80's songs are so burnt. Heart Alone is another one. I'm sure is gonna get brought up. But they still get hammered on all 80's stations. Not trying to offend anyone. That is one the things I was afraid of making someone mad because I skipped a song that might not
MitchM
Sam, 2 weeks in a row you ended the A-Z with a Chicago song. Did you do that on purpose?
Kari
Let me just say that when I comment on an absence it's never because I'm "mad".
Kari
Nothing but appreciation for this station and Sam
Cjrmack
Sam was hearing AMC 1976 later in the afternoon the other day. What is the schedule for that
sam
I don’t think anybody is mad. Just don’t want to upset anyone
Cjrmack
1976 is up there with my all-time favorite years for Top 40 music.
sam
No date on 76 yet
Cjrmack
Was it a preview?
GT25Ump
Love me some Meco!
GT25Ump
I have to leave for an umpire meeting here in a few minutes, but I'm looking forward to catching the first few minutes of some UMASS hockey action on NESN.
GT25Ump
First reaction...that Tim guy has a great voice (no hit on you, Brock, honest), and I can imagine him doing baseball play-by-play. And finally, Brock has an interesting tie on, but I just can't tell what's on it, he'll have to enlighten me.
Brock
GT! Thanks. I'm just a hack, Neverett's headed to Arizona this weekend to call Dodgers games. He, like Sam, does radio for a living. Those were cats on my tie, good job!!!
Kari
Happy Friday!
GT25Ump
I'll second that!
humphreycpa
Hello everyone! Back at my desk after working out of town!
humphreycpa
I was commuting home and missed Brock’s TV debut. :’(
Brock
Good morning all. Short night, I feel like Dave
dave in PA
Did you win??
Kari
Hey all. Great choices again on listener appreciation day!!!
Brock
3-0, first shutout of the season for a guy that's 19-4!!
dave in PA
Good news
GT25Ump
I'd like it known that Brock calling himself a "hack" is BS. He did a fine job!
Kari
I have some news that may be of interest to y'all, my friend Joe and I (who is a fox listener but only appears in chat every once in awhile) started a podcast about 80s music. We give a shoutout to Sam in the first episode because discovering this station really spurred our rediscovery/love of 80s music within the last year
GT25Ump
Just added it to my "favorites", I'll check it out sometime, for sure!
humphreycpa
thanks Kari. i have it bookmarked to listen.
Kari
aww thanks, would love to hear feedback if you get the chance
Brock
Will love at it this weekend Kari, thanks for sharing.
dave in PA
Sing along we know you know the words lol
Kari
kudos to whoever asked for Roxette! They have SO MANY great forgotten hits
GT25Ump
I figured you had, Kari. It sounded right up your alley.
Brock
Dave GT Humphrey, here you go. The producer has to tell me next time to get the mic off my kisser!
GT25Ump
LOL. I tell you, U win the better tie award!
dave in PA
That’s great
Kari
very cool Brick
Kari
Brock
Kari
when are we getting that edit button
Brock
What you want me to erase that picture Kari?
Brock
Oh sorry, just saw that. Brick is more on the mark, thank you for your kind words
Brock
And I get to do it again next Saturday! Before Saturday Night Disco!! Maine @ UMass on NESN+
GT25Ump
Awesome!
Brock
Meanwhile the guy I was working with is going to be on a plane to Arizona to call Dodgers spring training and 70 degree weather. I feel bad for him.
humphreycpa
Cool Brock! I just saw that the game was replayed at midnight this morning. I"ll make sure to set a reminder for next Saturday.
GT25Ump
Invisible Hands, I admit I like Kim Carnes, excluding the very fried, you know which song.
dave in PA
More Love is one of my favorites that gets no love
sam
That is my favorite by her for sure
Brock
Busy on the phones...Kim Carnes More Love summer of 80 classic
Brock
And later in '80 Amy Holland!
sam
Nice job on the TV Broadcast Brock!
Brock
Sam I appreciate that. When you work with tv & radio pros like I did and that you are, it makes your job a lot easier.
AC
Brick, nice! Perhaps that should be your group Brock! They are pretty sweet!
AC
Nice tie by the way as well. I hope to catch one of your games as well, though sadly I do not get NESN, so it will be a bit of a challenge.
Brock
AC Brick...Dusic! Yeah that's my wife and that cat tie. Full disclosure I'm an animal lover, cats and dogs in that order.
Brock
Great Lightfoot
